New Flight Deck Arrangement For Aircraft Carriers - The new type of angled flight deck.With the object of increasing the fighting power of the aircraft carrier, a new flight deck arrangement has been devised by the Royal Navy and the Ministry of supply.The idea is being developed simultaneously both in the United States and the United kingdom. Known as the "Angled Deck", the concept is extremely simple and results from a basically new approach to the problem of flying aircraft on to ships. Broadly speaking it involves the laying out of the flight deck and modifying slightly its conventional shape so that aircraft fly on at an angle of about eight degrees. November 14, 1952.
