JOHN FILMER. 'The Tyler-Davidson Fountain', 1874. Creator: John Filmer.

JOHN FILMER. 'The Tyler-Davidson Fountain', 1874. Fountain also known as 'The Genius of Water', cast by Ferdinand von Miller in 1867, Cincinatti, Ohio, USA. 'In the centre of the city is...one of the most beautiful fountains in the world. The figures are bronze, cast at Munich, Bavaria, at a cost of one hundred thousand dollars. The fountain is a memorial, presented to the city by one of its millionnaires, in memory of a relative. It bears the inscription, "To the People of Cincinnati"; and the people are constantly drinking from the four drinking-fountains at the corners, or looking up to the grand goddess above, who, from her beneficent, out-stretched hands, seems to be sending rain down upon a thirsty land'. From "Picturesque America; or, The Land We Live In, A Delineation by Pen and Pencil of the Mountains, Rivers, Lakes...with Illustrations on Steel and Wood by Eminent American Artists" Vol. II, edited by William Cullen Bryant. [D. Appleton and Company, New York, 1874].
