Female Sexual Response

Cross-section of the female genitalia, revealing structures such as the mons pubis, the fatty eminence anterior to the pubic symphysis, a growing together of the two pubic bones. The mons pubis is formed by the blending of the labia majora, the two outer folds of tissue that form the external boundaries of the vulva. Enclosed within the labia majora are the labia minora, thin-skin folds which contain sebaceous glands. Superior to the labia majora is the clitoris, the main erectile organ in the female. The pea-sized clitoris contains 8,000 nerve endings, twice as many as the penis and the most of any external structure in the body, including fingers, lips and tongue.
