In the short space of a month the council house home of Mr Frederick (tug) Wilson, a dock worker of Shirley Warren, Southampton, has become virtually a gallery of maritime paintings. With a few brushes and some Woolworths paint, Mr Lawson has completed paintings of the Queen Elizabeth, Queen Mary, Mauritania, Cape Town Castle, Carnarvon Castle and Golden Hind on the walls of his house. Mr Wilson has worked in all these ships except the Golden Hind. For that he used as model the "tails" sides of a half penny. Picture shows: watched by his children, left to right, Ronnie 4, Greta 13, and Yvonne 9, Mr Fred Wilson completes his painting of Queen Mary. Behind it can be seen that Mauritania and the Golden Hind. 5 January 1948.
