DOMINGO ANTONIO DE ANDRADE. 17TH CENTURY SPANISH ARCHITECT.. Spain, Galicia, Santiago de Compostela. The Cathedral. The Clock Tower or "Berenguela Tower". This name is erroneously taken from a defensive tower that Archbishop Berenguel de Landoira ordered to be built in 1316 to protect the western flank of the cathedral, although it has nothing to do with the Clock Tower, whose current appearance is due to Antonio de Andrade, the Master of Works in 1676, who erected the Baroque tower on the site of a medieval turret. The clock dates from 1831 and was built with a marble dial by Andrés Antelo. Architectural detail.
