AMERICA'S CHAMPION JOCKEY ARRIVES WOULD LIKE TO RIDE AGAINST GORDON Johnny Longden, son of a Yorkshire coalminer and now champion jockey of the United States, arrived at Southampton with his wife to-day (Thursday) in the Cunard White Star liner Queen Elizabeth for a 30-day tour of England, Ireland and France. Longden, who is 39, was born in Wakefield (Yorkshire) and taken to Canada by his parents when he was two years of age. He started riding in 1927 and he won nearly 3,500 races. His earnings have been estimated at £1,750,000. Longden said on arrival at Southampton that he had brought his racing gear and would like to ride against Gordon Richards.
