This lithograph was made as a tribute to Colonel Georges Picquart, who as head of intelligence for the French army discovered that fraud had been committed in the Alfred Dreyfus case. As he continued his investigation, he was relieved of his duties in 1898 and sent to Tunis. Cornillier depicted Picquart in prison, engrossed in a stack of books.
