On the front, the exhibition area with the pavilions and the Eiffel Tower is depicted on the globe with a rising sun above an allegorical scene with Minerva and a craftsman with hammer sitting on an anvil surrounded by attributes of industry, arts and trade. At the top the inscription: EXPOSITION UNIVERSELLE, in the middle below the inscription: 1889. and on a banderole: PAX. Lowercase below the maker: LOVIS BOTÉ E. On the reverse an allegorical image of fame blowing under a shining star on a trumpet near an oak tree. To her right a bust of the virgin of the French Republic Marianne with a laurel wreath. On the left the inscription: REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE. At the bottom above a laurel branch a rectangular classical ornamented cartouche with the name J.J. BAKHUYSEN FROM THE SANDE. Lower right in lower case the name of the maker: LOVIS BOTÉ E, paris.
