This is not Lord Tedder's first appearance in Army uniform - he was commissioned in the Dorsetshiare Regiment in 1914 before he was seconded to the Royal Flying Corps. He is believed to be the first airman to become honorary colonel of a British Army unit. February 22, 1949.
