Back To The Old Uniform -- Wearing Khaki Service dress, Marshal of the Royal Air Force Lord Tedder - Chief of the Air Staff inspects women members of the 190 (Mixed) Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment (Territorial Army) at the Finchley (North London) drill hall when he became honorary colonel of the unit. This is not Lord Tedder's first appearance in Army uniform - he was commissioned in the Dorsetshiare Regiment in 1914 before he was seconded to the Royal Flying Corps. He is believed to be the first airman to become honorary colonel of a British Army unit. February 22, 1949.
