Iulia Mamaea was the mother of Emperor Alexander Severus, the last member of the Severan dynasty to sit on the Roman throne from 222 to 235 AD. In the early years, she took over the de facto government of the Roman Empire for her still very young son. On the reverse side is the seated Felicitas, the Roman personification of good fortune and happiness.
