They Think Of The Small things -- A 29-year-old salesman painted this picture being explained by Wandsworth Prison officer J.Shaw. For the preview of a big art exhibition in London this afternoon, not one of the artists whose pictures hung on the walls was present. All of them were anxious to know how the public and the experts were reacting to their skill. but this will have to be reported to them. For all the artists are in prison or Borstal. Most have never handled palette or brush before. Their pictures are not for sale. These are on view until a week next Saturday at the Imperial Institute Galleries. South Kensington. They illustrate the thoughts and expressions from prison cells which could not always be put clearly into words. They often show nostalgia for the outside world. July 14, 1952.
