Framlingham Castle, 13th century, (c1960s) Reconstruction drawing as it might have appeared in the 13th Century. An early motte and bailey castle was built in Framlingham by 1148, destroyed by Henry II of England in the aftermath of the revolt of 1173-4. Its replacement, constructed by Roger Bigod, the Earl of Norfolk, a curtain wall with thirteen mural towers, was successfully taken by King John in 1216 after a short siege.
