ELLSWORTH OCH BALCHEN PLANERAR EXPEDITION

New York City.-Lincoln Ellsworth (right), veteran of two daring air expeditions to the North Polar regions, and Bernt Balchen (left), the man who piloted Admiral Byrd on his trans-Atlantic and Antarctic flights, are here shown looking over plans for their bisecting of the area known as the Antarctic Continent by airplane. Balchen will pilot the noted explorer. They plan to leave New York early in September, 1933 and go probably by way of the west coast of Australia to a base at Framheim on the Bay of Whales. They hope to make a 2,900 miles flight spanning the continent in what has been termed the last great adventure in South Polar exploration.
