Zamora pyxis (964). Cylindrical box with a conical lid attached by a silver hinge. It was commissioned by Caliph Al-Hakam II (915-976) for his concubine, Subh, mother of Prince 'Abd al-Rahman, as indicated in the Kufic script. The whole piece is decorated with arabesques, serrated, ringed leaves and palmettes, interspersed with pairs of peacocks, gazelles and birds. Made in the ivory workshops of Madinat al-Zahra in 353 after Hijra (964 AD), under the direction of Durri as-Saghir. Ivory. From the Cathedral of Zamora, Spain. National Archaeological Museum.
