AES Huntington Beach Generating Station next to Huntington State Beach, California, USA (July 2006). The AES Huntington Beach Generating Station (HBGS) became operational in 1958. It presently consists of four steam-powered electric generating units. Steam is supplied to each turbine generator from oil- and gas-fired boilers. The total power generating capacity is 880 MW. The power plant relies on the intake of ocean water for cooling, and is therefore situated beside the Pacific Ocean next to Huntington State Beach. The power plant has been a subject of environmental studies and monitoring.
