Along the Canal leading to Bridge of Sighs. This view shows us a series of those ornate marble bridges spanning the Palace Canal, and connecting the various 'calli,' or narrow streets, on both sides of it. Right and left we get a good idea of the style of architecture of a large proportion of the habitations of Venice. They are substantially built, and for the most part when Venice was enjoying more fortunate times. ·' Those days are gone, but beauty still is here' [B] In the distance we see the other side of the Bridge of Sighs, and the open lagune beyond.
