Thomas Becket (1118-1170). Lord Chancellor (1155-1162) and Archbishop of Canterbury (1162-1170). He came into conflict with King Henry II of England (1133-1189) over the rights and privileges of the Church. He was assassinated by followers of the king on 29 December 1170, at the atrium of Canterbury Cathedral.
