Orig. bildtext... SOUTHERN RHODESIA OUTLAWS ZAPU. The Southern Rhodesian Government today banned the Zimbabwe African People's Union (Zapu) and arrested several of its leaders. At the same time it called up army and air forces reservists to aid the civil authoritiouth. The Rhodesian Government has acted after a wave of violence and arson. On Sunday, September 16th, one African was killed, another seriously injured and several Europeans injured in battles which developed between rival African factions following a meeting of the ZAPU attended by between 7000 to 8000 Africans at Harare African Township. Political successes gained by viloence in other African countries are belived to have persuade some African nationalists in Southern Rhodesia that terrorism is now only way to achieve their objective. Schools, shops and factories had been looted and burned in this wave of violence.
