Titel: Mirrorbelly (Monacoa grimaldii)
Untertitel: Siehe automatische Übersetzung
The family Opisthoproctidae (Barreleye, Spookfish, and Mirrorbelly) is comprised of distinctive fishes. All species have tube shaped eyes and most also have a clear gelatinous tissue surrounding their visual organs. The Mirrorbelly (Monacoa grimaldii) is a fish that has a special structure on their ventral surface, a flat pad called a sole. The sole is a unique vertebrate structure and is used in the reflection and control of bioluminescence. This specimen was roughly two inches total length and was trawled at depths between 600 and 200 meters depth in the Gulf of Mexico, May 2017. Image courtesy of the DEEPEND project.
