Oundle Church, Northamptonshire, lately restored, 1864. Creator: Unknown.

Oundle Church, Northamptonshire, lately restored, 1864. 'The parish church of St. Peter...was reopened...after undergoing some extensive restorations, executed by Mr. R. Hall, of Nottingham, under the direction of Mr. Gilbert Scott. This church being in a very dilapidated state, it was, some time ago, found necessary to take steps to provide for its repair...The exterior has a lofty embattled tower, with decorated and pierced spire, together about 200 ft. in height...The walls and arches were formerly covered with plaster or whitewash, and this has been removed, so that the excellent colour of the walls and that of the seatings harmonise completely with each other...Attached to the church is a very fine crypt, which was formerly used as a charnel-house. This has now been cleaned out, and is used as a receptacle for fuel...The total cost of the restorations will amount to about £5000'. From "Illustrated London News", 1864.
