Luque Blesses Almagro and Pizarro, 16th Century

Though historically inaccurate Hernando de Luque is shown blessing Diego de Almargo and Francisco Pizarro jointly before they depart to explore Peru. Hernando de Luque was a Spanish priest who travelled to the New World in the 16th century. He arrived in 1514 with the expedition of Pedrarias Dávila to Panama. Francisco Pizarro Gonzalez, Marquess (1471 or 1476-1541) was a Spanish conquistador, conqueror of the Incan Empire, and founder of Lima, the modern-day capital of the Republic of Peru. Diego de Almagro, (1475-1538), also known as El Adelantado and El Viejo (The Elder), was a Spanish conquistador and a companion and later rival of Francisco Pizarro. He participated in the Spanish conquest of Peru and is credited as the first European discoverer of Chile. In 1524, while in Panama, Pizarro formed a partnership with Hernando de Luque and Diego de Almagro, to explore and conquer the South. Pizarro, Almagro, and Luque later renewed their compact more explicitly, agreeing to conquer and divide equally among themselves the opulent empire they hoped to discover.
