"Madre de Deus (Mother of God). Portuguese carrack used for trade with India. It was built and launched in 1589. This ship made two round voyages to the East Indies. In 1592, during its return from the second voyage, loaded with jewels and spices, it was captured by English ships off the Flores Island, in the Azores archipelago.
