A Puffed - Up Fellow At The London Zoo : The Puffer fish begins to swell as he is taken out of the water for close inspection. The aquarium at the London Zoo is full of strange inhabitants from the Seven Seas. One of the most unusual is the Puffer fish, brought from Madeira. This little fellow puffs his body up with either air or water as a form of protection against being swallowed by their natural enemies. This specimen was caught by local fishermen at Madeira, and brought to London by arrangements with the castle line of steamers, some of which carry tanks on board specially to bring these fish back for the London Zoo. November 29, 1948. (Photo by Fox).
