Indonesia / Netherlands: 'Het einde van den Atjeh-oorlog' ('The End of the Aceh War'). Het Volk (Amsterdam),18 January,1903. Aceh War (1873-1914)

In this 1903 political sketch by Albert Hahn, the Sultan of Aceh submits to a stern-looking Queen Wilhemina (? she was only 23 years old at the time) watched by a group of smiling capitalist fat cats, the ruins of Aceh in the background. The Aceh War, also known as the Dutch War or the Infidel War (1873–1914), was an armed military conflict between the Sultanate of Aceh and the Netherlands which was triggered by discussions between representatives of Aceh and the United Kingdom in Singapore during early 1873. The war was part of a series of conflicts in the late 19th century that consolidated Dutch rule over modern-day Indonesia.
