Echegaray, José (Madrid, 1832-1916). Playwright, writer, engineer and Spanish mathematician. Nobel Prize for Literature in 1904. He introduced in Spain the geometry of Chasles, the theory of Galois, the elliptic functions. He is considered to be the greatest Spanish mathematician of the nineteenth century.
