The obverse depicts a woman, Ceres, with a sickle in the right hand and a sheaf of corn in the left. On her chest she wears the coat of arms of Holland a shield with a climbing lion. Behind her is a fleeing stream god in the waves on the left and a steam pumping station on the right. Below this scene is the inscription N. PIENEMAN INV. S.C. ELION F.
