Title: Jascha Heifetz, Russian-American Violinist
Caption: Jascha Heifetz (February 2 1901 - December 10, 1987) was a Russian-American violinist. Many consider him the greatest violinist of all time. A virtuoso since childhood, he moved to the United States where, at the age of 16, made his debut at Carnegie Hall and became an immediate sensation. He had a long and successful performing career. His use of rapid vibrato, emotionally charged portamento, fast tempi, and superb bow control coalesced to create a highly distinctive sound that makes Heifetz's playing instantly recognizable to aficionados. Bain News Service, 1917 (cropped and cleaned).
