Sir Rufane Shaw Donkin, British soldier, 19th century. Colonial administrator Donkin (1773-1841) went to the Cape of Good Hope on sick leave after the death of his young wife. He named the rising seaport of Algoa Bay Port Elizabeth in memory of her. He committed suicide in 1841.
