Germany, Cologne, Cologne Cathedral, South Aisle, Stained Glass Window, The Pentecost Window. Cologne Cathedral was built was built to house the relics of the Three Magi, under the direction of Archbishop Conrad von Hochstaden. Construction of the present Gothic church began in August 15th, 1248 and completed in 1880. In 1996, the cathedral was added to the UNESCO world heritage list of culturally important sites. The Window depicts the descent of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost. The standing figures in the architectural frames of the main scene embody the four cardinal virtues: fortitude, justice, wisdom, and temperance.
