Chilon of Sparta, Sage of Greece

Chilon of Sparta (6th century BC) was a Lacedaemonian and one of the Seven Sages of Greece. He was a famous legislator and reformer from Athens, framing the laws shaped the Athenian democracy. Chilon is said to have helped to overthrow the tyranny at Sicyon, which became a Spartan ally. He is also credited with the change in Spartan policy leading to the development of the Peloponnesian League in the sixth century BC. The Seven Sages (of Greece) or Seven Wise Men (620 BC-550 BC) was the title given by ancient Greek tradition to seven early 6th century BC philosophers, statesmen and law-givers who were renowned in the following centuries for their wisdom.
