Orig. bildtext... SIT DOWN PROTEST IN LONDON. The biggest demonstration of mass civil disobedience took place of Saturday when thousands of anti-H bomb demonstrators - led by 88-year-old Earl Russell (Bertrand Russell, the philosopher) - marched to Whitemall, London and sat down on the pavement outside the Defence Ministry. They sat for nearly three hours in silence, then cheering broke out as Lord Earl Russell nailed a declaration to the Ministry door saying the nuclear powers of the East and West were holding the people of the world to ransom.
