Comparable pieces were found in Metapont. The image field is closed at the bottom by a palmette band and at the top by a geison. To the left and right are half a palmette with a lancet leaf each, which prove that the plate was part of a repeat. Three holes in the picture field were formerly used for the attachment. No traces of paint have survived. Depicted are two Orientals standing opposite each other, kneeling and holding a round shield with a Gorgoneion. The Orientals are probably Amazons. They are dressed in long, belted robes, boots and Phrygian caps.
