Gen. Nic J Smit - Fighting-General Nicolaas Smit was made famous by the battle of Ingogo, where he commanded the Transvaalers. With President Kruger and the Rev S J Du Toit, Super-intendant of Education, he formed the (third) Deputation that, in 1884, was despatched to London to convince Lord Derby of the necessity of amending the Pretoria Convention.
