Jules Chéret (May 31, 1836 - September 23, 1932) was a French painter and lithographer who became a master of poster art. Often called the father of the modern poster. He was awarded the Legion of Honour by the French Government in 1890 for his outstanding contributions to the graphic arts. In 1895, Chéret created the Maîtres de l'Affiche collection. In 1933 he was honored with a posthumous exhibition of his work at the prestigious Salon d'Automne in Paris. ©TopFoto
