Title: Thailand: Old ticket office at Hua Hin Railway Station, Hua Hin, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province.
Caption: Billed by the locals, and with reason, as ‘Thailand’s most beautiful train station’, this wooden building was once a royal pavilion at the Sanamchan Palace in Nakhon Pathom province. It was moved to Hua Hin and restructured as a railway station in 1968. In fact the station overflows with a period charm, from the red-and-white tiled platform, through the gleaming, retired steam locomotive permanently on display opposite the platform, to the pink-curtained waiting room. But the centerpiece has to be the pink, yellow and white multi-eaves sala that serves as the main station building. More temple adjunct than station, the entire ensemble exudes a seductive charm.
