Abdullah Ibn Masud, Kaaba

A Persian miniature taken from the Siyer-i Nebi is a Turkish epic about the life of Muhammad, completed around 1388. The Ottoman ruler Murad III commissioned a lavish illustrated copy of the work. The calligrapher Lutfi Abdullah completed the work in 1595. The illustration is captioned: "One of Islam's early converts, Abdullah ibn Masud (at right) attempted to recite the Koran in front of the Kaaba, but the idol worshipping Meccans, outraged by the new religion, beat him severely.".
