General Prince Edward of Saxe-Weimar, 1896. Although of German parentage, Prince Edward of Saxe-Weimar (1823-1902) served in the British Army. He received several battle honours for his service in the Grenadier Guards in the Crimean War, and served as Commander-in-Chief in Ireland from 1885-1890. In 1897 he was made a Field Marshal.
