Illustration of spondylosis of the lumbar vertebrae (lumbar arthrosis), with discarthrosis, herniated disc (red disc at center) and facet arthrosis. Spondylosis is a non-inflammatory degeneration (arthrosis) of the vertebral column. It can be accompanied, as shown here, by discarthrosis (arthrosis of intervertebral disks), facet arthrosis (arthrosis of the vertebral apophyses), formation of osteophytes (bone spurs) or a compression of the spinal cord or the nerve roots.
