Spodumene in Various Colors

Spodumene, a lithium silicate mineral, occurs in crystals (sometimes very large) of varying colors. The main occurrences for gem spodumene are Brazil and Afghanistan. The most familiar color is the pink variety known as kunzite, but green, blue-green and yellow stones have also found their way into the marketplace. Rare bicolor gems also exist. These gems range from about 16 to more than 47 carats. Yellow spodumene is sometimes designated by the name triphane.
