Bone, Osteons and interstitial lamellae

Light micrograph of compact bone. Osteons are rounded or oval structures, made up of bony lamellae arranged concentrically around a small duct called (Haversian duct). Between the lamellae are the oval bodies of the osteocytes. Among the osteons there are groupings of bone lamellae called interstitial lamellae, which are the remnants of osteons that were partially resorbed during the process of bone remodeling.
