Moses Defeating the Moors, c.1400

"Moses Defeating the Moors," a Bavarian illustration from c.1400-1410, with additions in 1487, found in the World Chronicle, which contained stories from the Bible and ancient history, and also included purposefully fabricated historical tales such as this. Moses, at far left in a pink tunic, commands his army against the forces of the Moors. The Moors were Muslims living in medieval Spain, thousands of years after Moses's death, and this story was probably invented in the Middle Ages to provide a sacred precedent for the attempts of medieval Christians to expel the Moors from Spain.
