FREDRICH SPRECHT. The Hartebeest

THE HARTEBEEST. This species of Antelope, existing in large numbers in central and southern Africa, is of somewhat ungainly form, because of the lamer dsvel wiiem of the fore quarters as compare 1 with the hin Isr oaes. The most striking peculiarity of the animal is its peculiarly shaped horns, which are well illustrated in this picture. (Bubalis caama.). Plate from "Brehm's Life of animals : a complete natural history for popular home instruction and for the use of schools." Art by Fredrich Sprecht (1839-1909).
