Defenestration of Prague, 1618

Matthaus Merian's impression of the 1618 Defenestration of Prague. Defenestration is the act of throwing someone out of a window. The term was coined around the time of an incident in Prague Castle in the year 1618, which became the spark that started the Thirty Years' War. A similar incident occurred in Prague's City Hall 200 years earlier in 1419, which led to the Hussite war. Engraving from 1662. Colorized.
