Caption: Watercolour illustration from a book of rare birds by G Edwards 1750. George Edwards (1694-1773) was a British naturalist and ornithologist. He travelled extensively through Europe, studying natural history and birds in particular. He gained some recognition for his coloured drawings, and published his first work in 1743-the first volume of A Natural History of Uncommon Birds.
