Church buried in lava from Paricutin volcano. Paricutin is a volcano in the Mexican state of Michoacan, close to a lava-covered village of the same name. Paricutin is the youngest of more than 1,400 volcanic vents that exist in the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt. It started as fissure in a cornfield in 1942 and grew to 424 meters in height by 1952, when it became dormant. It is often named as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.
