Georges Biassou, early leader of the 1791 slave rising that began the Haitian Revolution, 1806. Biassou fought with the Spanish against the French colonial masters of Haiti. He was defeated by his former ally, Toussaint l'Ouverture, who had defected to the side of the French, and left Haiti for Florida, then a Spanish colony.
