Baron von Bunsen, German Diplomat

Portrait of Christian Karl Josias von Bunsen (August 25, 1791 - November 28, 1860), German diplomat and scholar. Born at Korbach in the German principality of Waldeck into a poor family, Bunsen excelled in school. He was appointed to the Prussian embassy at Rome and later as Prussian ambassador at the court of Saint James. In 1857 he was granted the title of Freiherr (Baron) von Bunsen.
