Frank Pays Respect to Brother Jesse James, 1882

Frank James (second from left) and others posing over the dead body of his brother, Jesse James. Alexander Franklin "Frank" James (January 10, 1843 - February 18, 1915) was an Confederate soldier, guerrilla and outlaw. During his years as a bandit, James was involved in at least four robberies between 1868-76 that resulted in the deaths of bank employees or citizens. Five months after the killing of his brother Jesse in 1882, Frank surrendered. He was tried for only two of the robberies/murders and acquitted in both. In his final years, James returned to the James Farm, giving tours for the sum of 25 cents. He died in 1915, at the age of 72. Jesse Woodson James (September 5, 1847 - April 3, 1882) was an American outlaw, gang leader and the most famous member of the James-Younger Gang. Already a celebrity when he was alive, he became a legendary figure of the Wild West after his death. On April 3, 1882, Jesse James was killed by a member of his own gang, Robert Ford, who hoped to collect a reward on James' head. A.A. Hughes and Brothers stereograph, April 4, 1882.
