Gastropod Fossil

Gastropod fossil (Straparollus sp.) from Carboniferous Period limestone in the UK.  Straparollus was found in shallow seas worldwide from the Silurian to the Permian, and grew to 50 mm in diameter.  It had thin radiating ribs across the whorls, and a slight ridge running through the center of the spiral.
