As decoration, the studied botanist chose mainly motifs from the plant world and thus promoted the rich floral ornamentation, which as a whole is characteristic of French Art Nouveau. Gallé, who also made a name for himself as a designer of exquisite furniture, represented the artistic ambition to shape his glasses and furniture into speaking objects. They should speak the language of nature and convey appropriate moods and symbolic content.
